Day 17 0906

Well, it is time for a nice morning update. It appears as though the city council has approved the removal of a number of tall trees in the front yard, so the tree removalists have arrived this morning.

Not surprisingly I received a phone call from a neighbour across the road about 5 minutes ago...

PC: "It's [person calling] from across the road here, do you intend to remove all the trees"
Me: "Oh good morning, PC I'm good thanks for asking, to be honest I don't know what trees they are removing"
PC:" Well they are cutting down all the trees, is this really necessary, I mean what are your intentions"
Me: "I don't really know, I am just house sitting for mum and dad who are overseas at the moment"
PC: "Well have they thought about the need for the removal of these trees?"
Me: "I'm not sure, I mean, I'm sure they have, but they aren't here so I can't ask them, and I'm not one to speak on there behalf."
PC: "Well have YOU put any thought into the environmental impact and stress being placed on them in their removal?"
Me: "Um, not really, I'm not an environmental engineer, but I am sure that someone somewhere put some thought into it before approving it."
PC: " Well maybe you should become one before you do it again. Bye"
Me:"Ok, have a nice day..."

Interesting days ahead I'm sure, I've never really thought about becoming an environmental engineer/scientist, and if I did, I think it take a bit more time than it would take to cut down these trees.

I mean, I enjoy trees as much as the next person, when it boils down to it the neighbor's in this street didn't have to hose of bird guano every morning in the summer, they didn't need to concern themselves with the things falling into the house, or worse a pedestrian walking past the house. Yet they concern themselves with their removal, to the point of annoying me at 0900 in the morning with a nuisance phone call suggesting I alter my line of specialisation.

I'll post a photo later this afternoon...

Did you offer to provide counselling to the trees before their untimely demise? If not I am appalled at the callous way you have managed this whole interaction with our botanical colleagues! Do you not realise these are living creatures put here by one of the superior beings to fulfil an important role? Just think of the stress you would feel if someone turned up with a noisy chainsaw and chopped you down before feeding you to a shredder and spreading you on some garden or circus floor now there is a thought!Furthermore we all know Prince Charles didn't really call you anyway so why pretend! At least he respects the trees and would seek their opinion first and then get someone else to chop them down while he was off with the hounds to visit the foxes in their yards!!
